Book Review: HOMEBODY BY JOANNA GAINES

Homebody: A guide to creating spaces you never want to leave by Joanna Gaines

According to me, this book is an interior designer’s paradise. The amount of knowledge is pretty impeccable and well explained.

Homebody is actually a beautiful guide to interior design for your spaces and Joanna has managed to incorporate her experience in this industry with such beautiful writing and project the readers with ease of understanding.

I read it like an interior designer and understood a whole lot of things but the fan of beautiful pictures that admired great interior design and styling came out in me and I was awestruck by the layouts and the images.

The first look of the book is very promising.

Now going through the book,

You get nine descriptive chapters that cover major areas that one designs in a house and defines the core of designing those areas.

You also get the following:

  • A ‘how to use this book’ page: you receive a few steps that will help you grasp the knowledge provided in this book better.

  • A description of how to understand your design style.

  • A ‘critical thinking’ page: at the beginning of each chapter, you get a basic brief about the design components that would be later used and explained well in the chapter of that room or area.

  • A ‘troubleshoot’ page: after every chapter, you get a summary of the chapter with its practical solutions.

  • Notes and the Design Template: at the end of the book you would receive a few pages for jotting down your notes and some design templates to design your own space and ideas. And for interior designers like myself, it is a great touch overall.

Now for the aspects, I loved about the book:

  1. Its a beautifully crafted book

  2. Amazing interior design and styling solutions

  3. You might get lost in the gorgeous pictures while reading the book (this comes from my very own experience).

  4. Ease of understanding different concepts with reference to interior design.

  5. A good guide for designers as well as the clients.

There are two things I did not prefer about this book:

  1. Its price point: this book is a bit expensive for my personal choice but once I got it I felt it was worth investing in.

  2. It's a big heavy book: for a person who is always on the go, I felt it was a bit tedious task to carry this book along as it is a big hearty book.

But nevertheless, I’m in love with this book.
